Something dark follows me home in the bitter winter cold. I see his fingers flash, long and jagged, in my peripheral vision. My breath hisses and steams like a kettle as I quicken my pace. It doesn't stop the shadow man though. His hands plunge again, grow, elongate into my abdomen like some sick surgeon's glove. I feel his fingers wrap around life support and tug. His soft snicker is like snow sifting through treebranches. Then he wraps himself ever so carefully aound my insides, claws caressing abdominal cavities and the convex of my diaphragm, and it makes me warm. I hardly even shiver when the real heat hits me as he settles like the subtle burn of rum in the pit of my belly.
