I never thought I would be the type to cry when my feet left the ground. Mostly I figured that my fear was always of falling, not of taking off, but maybe that was only in a literal sense.
There is a certain safety on the ground. Something delicate and finely tuned holds your feet there. In the air it is a free fall. Flying just delays the inevitable.
So when I hit the ground, I hope that finely tuned thing will hold me once again. A safety net for the terrified.
